Several professionals from the Instituto Oftalmológico Fernández-Vega and its Eye Research Foundation (Fundación de Investigación Oftalmológica) participate in the 45th Annual Conference of the Dominican Society of Ophthalmology that takes place at the same time as the V Annual Meting of the World Keratoconus Society and present a total of nineteen communiqués.
Every year, international guests with a great professional track record in different specialities attend this event; this year Prof Luis Fernández-Vega, Medical Director of the Institute and President of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SEO), is taking part in the Module of Cataract Surgery with the presentations: “Diffractive Lenses” and “Femtosecond Laser In Cataract Surgery”. He is also presenting “New Trends In Keratoplasty” and “Combined Surgery: DALK And Cataract”, the latter in the Module Keratoplasty and Cataract Surgery in Keratoconus.
For its part, Dr José F. Alfonso Sánchez, coordinator of clinical research and Chief of the Cornea, Crystalline and Refractive Surgery Unit at the Institute and President of the Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (known as SECOIR in Spanish), presents “Lens Exchange” and “Opacity Of The Capsule” in the Module of Cataract Surgery, as well as “Surgical Classification Of The Keratoconus” and “Femtosecond-Assisted Technique” in the Session Intrastromal Segments. On top of this, he will present “Cataract Surgery Following ICRS And Keratoconus” in the Session Keratoplasty and Cataract Surgery in Keratoconus and “Management Of Residual Astigmatism” in the Session Refractive Management and Treatment of Keratoconus.
Lastly, Dr Jesús Merayo, coordinator of the Eye Surface and Inflammation Clinical Unit, Research Director and Principal Researcher at the Eye Research Foundation (Fundación de Investigación Oftalmológica) and Secretary of the Keratoconus Society, participates in the Sessions of Updating Basic Sciences presenting “What’s New In Basic Sciences: Epidemiology, Genetics, Physiopathology” and Cross Linking with “Development of CXL and ICRS techniques” and presenting “Implications Of Prevention And Medical Treatment” in the Session Refractive Management and Treatment of Keratoconus. He is also presenting “Management Of Uveitis Patients”, “Uveitis And Tuberculosis”, “Management Of Immunosuppressive Agents In Uveitis”, “Updating In Dry Eye”, “Biological Focus On The Treatment Of Ocular Surface Pathologies” and “Pre-Operative Treatment Of The Degeneration Of The Meibomian Gland” in the Module Uveitis and Ocular Surface. He is also in charge of the closure of the Session Clinical Cases.
