Mr Pedro Pablo Rodríguez Calvo, Dr at the Institute, will give on Tuesday 12 March the conference “El Glaucoma, una enfermedad silenciosa” (Glaucoma, a silent disease) in Oviedo; a session that will take place on the same day of the worldwide celebration of the day of this pathology and which will be held at Club Prensa Asturiana (La Nueva España).
Glaucoma, second cause of blindness worldwide, is a degenerative disease that originates a gradual damage in the optical nerve. It is a chronic and progressive affectation characterised by an increasing loss of nerve cells in the retina, compounded with the appearance and development of imperfections in the visual field. In most cases, this pathology is associated with an increase in intraocular pressure (IOP).
