SECOIR HOLDS IT ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN BARCELONA
The Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (SECOIR in Spanish), headed by Dr José F. Alfonso Sánchez from the Institute, held its 28th annual conference from May 15th -18th at the Centro de Convenciones Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB).
Dr José F. Alfonso Sánchez – head of the Crystalline, Cornea and Refractive Surgery Unit of the Institute – opened the conference as president of SECOIR and presented “3.000 implantes de ICL y 10 años de experiencia” (3000 ICL implants and 10 years of experience), “Fenotipado del QC para implante de ICRS” (KC phenotyping for ICRS implantation), “Mapas diagnósticos: comparativa entre equipos” (Diagnostic maps: comparison between devices) and “Córnea 2” (Cornea 2). The president of SECOIR participated as speaker in the “Vídeo-simposio de maniobras quirúrgicas y casos complicados” (Video-symposium of surgical manoeuvres and complicated cases) and as panellist in the symposium “XII edición de Perlas Faco-Refractivas” (XII edition of Phaco-Refractive Pearls). He also coordinated the “Simposio SECOmIR: Formar y motivar” (SECOIR symposium: train and motivate), presented “ICL: perlas tras 15 años de experiencia” (ICL: pearls after 15 years of experience) and chaired the symposium “Cirugía del cristalino (I)” (Crystalline surgery (I)). He also lead lunch with the industry “Entendiendo las imágenes y usos de la OCT y Scheimpflug” (Understanding images and uses of OCT and Scheimpflug), chaired the symposium “SECOIR Joven” (Young SECOIR) and presented “Queratoplastia protegida por pseudoocámara” (Pseudochamber protected keratoplasty). Finally, he presented the I Meeting of Optometrists from Ophthalmological Clinics in which Mr Javier Lonazo – responsible for the department of Optometry at the Institute – participated.
For his part, the medical director of the Institute – Prof Luis Fernández-Vega -, as well as taking part in the official opening as president of the SEO (Spanish Society of Ophthalmology), he presented “Selección de las lentes multifocales” (Multifocal lens selection) and headed the crystalline course “Intercambio de LIO e implantes secundarios” (IOL Exchange and secondary implants). He also presented “Intercambio de LIO: Indicaciones y técnica” (IOL Exchange: indications and technique) and chaired the meeting with the expert Armando Crema “Cirugía de la Catarata” (Cataract Surgery). The professor also participated in the symposium “Vídeo-simposio de maniobras quirúrgicas y casos complicados” (Video-symposium of surgical manoeuvres and complicated cases) and as a panellist in “El experto responde” (The expert answers). At the same time, he chaired the “Presentación de la Monografía 2013” (Presentation of the Monograph 2013), and participated as speaker in the interest group “FemtoFaco” (FemtoPhaco) and chaired and participated in “Cirugía del Cristalino (II)” (Crystallien Surgery (II)).
Dr Jesús Merayo Lloves, coordinator of the Clinical Unit Eye Surface and Inflammation of the Eye at the Institute, presented “Disfunción lagrimal, lentes de contacto y usuarios de pantallas de ordenador” (Lacrimal dysfunction, contact lenses and computer screen users) and “El Queratocono como enfermedad inflamatoria” (Keratoconus as inflammatory disease), chaired the symposium SEOIR-GESOC: Medical cornea “Terapias regenerativas de superficie” (Regenerative therapies for the eye surface) and participated in “I Reunión de Tutores MIR en Oftalmología” (I Meeting of tutors for RMI in Ophthalmology).
José I. Blázquez García, Dr from the Cornea, Anterior Segment, Refractive Surgery and Cataracts Units at the Institute, presented “Lentes ancladas a iris y vitrectomía” (Iris fixated lens and vitrectomy).
Drs from the Crystalline, Cornea and Refractive Surgery Unit at the Institute Carlos Lisa and Miguel Naveiras presented “Lentes fáquicas epicapsulares (ICL V4c)” (Epicapsular phakic lenses (ICL V4c)) and “Femto-Faco-DMEK” respectively. Dr Carlos Lisa also presented “Complicaciones en DALK” (DALK complications), participated in the course “Las claves del éxito en cirugía refractiva: casos clínicos” (The key to success in refractive surgery: clinical cases), presented “Uso y combinación de Lente Fáquica y Anillos Corneales en queratocono, ¿Cómo y cuándo?” (Use and combination of Phakic Lense and Corneal Rings in KC, how and when?), participated in the meeting with the expert Alaa El-Danasoury “Phakic IOLs: what did I learn over 20 years” and “Últimos avances en DMEK” (Latest developments in DMEK), he is also tutor of the SECIR training. Finally, Dr Miguel Naveiras presented “Propuesta futura para un Banco de Ojos” (Future proposal for an Eye Bank) and coordinated the symposium “SECOIR Joven” (Young SECOIR). Both Drs presented their contributions in the interest group “Queratoplastia Endotelial” (Endothelial Keratoplasty).
Likewise, Dr Álvaro Meana Infiesta, main researcher at the Fundación de Investigación Oftalmológica (FIO), lead the cornea course “Banco de Ojos” (Eye Bank), presented “Proyecto Integral Banco de Tejidos Oculares (Principado de Asturias) (Comprehensive project Eye Tissue Bank (Principality of Asturias))” as well as “Medicina regenerativa del endotelio” (Endothelial Regenerative medicine).
Dr Begoña Baamonde, who collaborates both with the Institute and the FIO, coordinated and participated in the “I Reunión de Tutores MIR en Oftalmología” (I Meeting of tutors for RMI in Ophthalmology).
Dr Luis Fernández-Vega Cueto Felgueroso presented “Clasificación de las lentes multifocales” (Classification of multifocal lenses) in the Refractive lensectomy block of the “Simposio SECOmIR: Formar y motivar” (SECOIR symposium: train and motivate).
The Institute also held a Nursing conference, which involved the participation of Tamara Fernández, María Requejo and Elena González, Nurse Graduates at the Institute. Mr Avelino Ojanguren, responsible for the Nursing Department at the Institute presented “Lentes fáquicas” (Phakic lenses) in the round table “Lentes Intraoculares” (Intraocular Lenses).
The “I Meeting of Optometrists from Ophthalmological Clinics ” was held in the framework of the conference, Mr Javier Lozano Sanroma, responsible for the department of Optometry at the Institute presented “Curvas de desenfoque en lentes multifocales” (Defocus curves in multifocal lenses) and optometrist Marta García presented “OCT de segmento anterior en la selección de lentes fáquicas” (Anterior Segment OCT in the selection of phakic lenses). Optometrists from the Institute Manuel Álvarez, Nacho Serrano, Arancha Poo and Vanesa Marina also participated.
