Eye diseases

Welcome to our section on eye diseases and treatments, where we will describe in detail the most common ones and the services we offer to treat them.

Cataract

Cataract is an eye disease that consists of the loss of transparency of the crystalline lens, one of the lenses that are part of the optical system of the eye and that allows us to focus images on the retina.

Retinal detachment

Retinal detachment occurs precisely when the retina separates from the tissue that supports it, causing the affected area to stop functioning and may even break.

Myopia

Myopia is a refractive defect that occurs when light rays converge at a point in front of the retina, preventing you from correctly seeing things located at a certain distance.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. It is a degenerative disease that undermines the optic nerve, causing the progressive loss of nerve fibers.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is determined by the morphology of the cornea, which may be more curved in one meridian than in another. Patients have blurred and distorted vision.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

AMD is a common disease in older people, generally caused by the aging process that affects the tissues of the eye, especially the retina and specifically the macula.

Hyperopia

Hyperopia is another refractive error. In this case, the opposite of myopia occurs, so objects are focused behind the retina. Treatment can be with laser or intraocular lenses.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels that supply blood to the retina and leads to vision loss. It is one of the most common causes of blindness.

Macular hole

Macular holes are usually a consequence of aging, which is why they usually affect people over 60 years of age. Treatment is always surgical and is performed by vitrectomy.

Dry eye

It is a disease of the external part of the eye that occurs when it loses its function of protecting, lubricating and improving vision, causing discomfort, inflammation and vision impairment.

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a progressive inflammatory disease of the cornea. In its initial phase, the cornea becomes cone-shaped, causing irregular astigmatism and poor visual quality.

Pediatric

The success of the treatment of the various ophthalmological disorders present in the pediatric age group will always be conditioned by their early diagnosis.
