At the Instituto Oftalmológcio Fernández-Vega, we are committed to improving eye health through a comprehensive approach that encompasses excellence in clinical treatment, advanced research, education of future professionals and social work. Discover how our different initiatives complement each other to transform people’s eye health.
The Fundación de Investigación Oftalmológica, chaired by Professor Luis Fernández-Vega Sanz, has been working since 2009 to understand the diseases that cause blindness and visual impairments with the aim of developing new strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
Currently, there are three basic research groups: an ocular surface unit, a retinal neurobiology unit and an eye disease genetics unit, as well as a translational research group on regenerative medicine.
Since joining the University of Oviedo in June 2015, the Instituto Universitario Fernández-Vega has added teaching in ophthalmology and vision sciences to the research work of the FIO. The Instituto Universitario Fernández-Vega offers undergraduate and postgraduate students in health sciences quality training based on its own clinical and research activity through a large teaching team of active professionals.
The Fundación Fernández-Vega, chaired by Professor Luis Fernández-Vega Sanz and directed by Victoria Cueto-Felgueroso, represents the Fernández-Vega family’s commitment to social work. Its mission is to facilitate access to ophthalmological services for disadvantaged people and communities, collaborating with NGOs and institutional bodies.
Furthermore, the Foundation not only acts locally, but also extends its help internationally, with the development of initiatives in Peru, Equatorial Guinea, Angola and Cambodia.
We have all the ophthalmological specialties and the most advanced technical means to treat your eye disease.
